Cleaning the air ducts for the first time

As a up-to-date beach home owner, I have a lot to learn, however i realized that my beach home heating and cooling runs through an extensive network of ductwork.

I assumed when I got the home that this was something I’d be able to do on my own; Well, in short, my assumption was wrong.

I ended up hiring a team of HVAC professionals to come and wash the ductwork… The cleaning process required tools I legitimately would not have had on my own. The HVAC professionals used high powered vacuums and rotary brushes; Apparently these tools are used to agitate the dust, or to discottage some of the dust that has settled into the ductwork. When the dust and allergens are loosened up a bit, it makes it easier to vacuum them out. While I’ve heard that there are ways to wash ductwork on your own, after seeing it done, I guess I will leave this job to the professionals… You only need to wash your ductwork once every 3 to 5 years, so it’s not like it is a silly expense to keep up with. After the HVAC professionals were done cleaning the ductwork, the air quality felt so much better, and my dust sensitivities improved significantly. I guess there was more dust caked in that ductwork than I thought!
