Updating to a smart thermostat

I had an HVAC technician come to my home a few months ago for a routine maintenance appointment and I ended up buying a smart thermostat.

He was checking on my heating system and made a comment about how outdated my thermostat was.

He said that my thermostat looked like it was about 10 years old, which is quite outdated in terms of the technological advances that have come along in the heating and cooling industry. He suggested a smart thermostat. At first, I thought this was a little unnecessary. I understood that it was convenient to have access to your heating and cooling preferences through your phone, but I didn’t see it as much beyond that. However, the HVAC technician explained to me that it’s actually much more than that. The real benefit to having a smart thermostat is that it familiarizes itself with the heating preferences of the home and optimizes the energy on its own. If I am continuously turning the heat down when I’m at work, the smart thermostat will detect that the house is not occupied during that time and it will adjust the settings to optimize the energy used. In other words, I never have to think about adjusting the thermostat again once the smart thermostat is working to my lifestyle pattern. Not to mention, it saves me energy and money. I went for the upgrade and am so glad I did. I’ve saved money every month since I got it.
