Rolling the dice on the heat pump this summer

It’s not even the minute month of August plus I’m already busy out.

I think that comes with the territory when you bet on a 23 year outdated heat pump to make it through the summer.

Add to that equation the fact that the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C contractor told us last fall that the two of us easily needed to replace the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C machine soon. Well, he said the same thing but with more urgency when he came back to do the air conditioning tune-up this Spring. But the two of us still hadn’t saved the money that the two of us were hoping to put together so the two of us rolled the dice on the outdated heat pump. Could it hold together for just 1 more summer? I tried to corner the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C professional on this 1. But the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C contractor was clear that once the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C cooling costs skyrocketed, the two of us didn’t have long. Outside of that, he just couldn’t supply us much more on a timeline. The skyrocketing cooling costs are due to the fact that heat pump is losing the ability to even meet control machine demand. The heat pump has to run nearly continuously to just get to the split even point. That’s not fantastic news for the outdated heat pump plus it’s a quick downward spiral from there. So the two of us made sure that the two of us programmed the control machine to stay easily high while in the peak heating minutes of the summer time afternoons. And at night, the two of us bring it down a bit to sleep. The fans are helping as well but I still don’t think so fantastic about this bet that our outdated heat pump will get through the next several weeks of intense heat plus humidity.
