On a mission to reduce heating costs this winter

I’m actually sort of excited about the winter.

We are seeing the early bits of winter weather now.

And I’m also feeling like this year will be the best when it comes to having a cozy house without a lot of heating costs. Most years, I simply call the HVAC company to come out to do the heating maintenance on the gas furnace and then just move on. But when I heard the news that heating costs are going to spike this winter, I got a bit more proactive about saving on heating costs. It’s a good thing that something got me off my butt when it comes to saving on HVAC heating. For years, all I’ve been doing is moaning about what it cost for heating during our winters. The winters here are long and cold. And that means the gas furnace is running quite a bit. But this year, I decided to do more than just have the HVAC professionals do the heating maintenance. This year, I spent a solid amount of time prepping the house. This is the key component that I’ve been missing out on through the years. I simply wasn’t doing my part to save on heating costs by making sure the house was ready for the winter. And when I say ready, I mean sealed up tight to keep the HVAC heating on the inside and the cold on the outside. It really didn’t take all that much but it’s done now. I’ve sealed and insulated our house to the best of my ability. Now bring on the cold. I’m actually sort of interested to see just how much I save on HVAC heating this winter.
