Basement is so cool in the summer

I can get work done in the basement, and the thermostat doesn’t even need to be powered on in order to feel cool and comfortable

I’m a huge fan of basements. I have fond memories of spending my time in our basement growing up, where we were allowed to play and run around without worrying about breaking any expensive furniture or appliances. We could have friends down there to play games and watch television, and the dogs were allowed to come hang out with us too. As an adult, basements haven’t lost their allure, but there are other reasons that I’m particularly fond of them. Namely, they stay so much cooler than the rest of the house and we can really save on our energy costs by utilizing this underground space. You see, we live in a pretty hot climate and rely on our air conditioning for any level of comfort during the summer. It’s expensive to run your AC 24/7, but the alternative option is feeling hot and muggy all the time, which I cannot stand. Luckily, having a lower level to the house, I’ve realized that spending time down there naturally feels much cooler. I can get work done in the basement, and the thermostat doesn’t even need to be powered on in order to feel cool and comfortable. On particularly hot nights I can also relocate myself to the basement for an extremely satisfying night of sleep, because the temperature consistently stays ten to twenty degrees cooler than the rest of the house. I feel like I have hit the jackpot as far as saving on energy costs and still keeping it cool in our hot new neighborhood.
