Signing up for a maintenance plan for the gas furnace

When I installed a new gas furnace, I should have taken better care of it.

  • It was a immense investment that didn’t last as long as it should have.

The heating program ended up costing way more than expected. I was really unhappy with the price and was unwilling to spend even more currency on a maintenance contract. I assumed that a brand new gas furnace would be good without professional maintenance for a few years. I made sure to be diligent about cleaning the filter every month however never got around to scheduling proactive upkeep. After various years, the gas furnace suddenly quit. I expected the maintenance to be minor, quick and inextravagant. However, once the specialist took the program apart, he found a hairline crack in the heat exchanger. This flaw was too small to see with the human eye. He needed a magnifying glass to show it to me. He then told myself and others that the price of a new heat exchanger is more than a whole new gas furnace, but because the heat exchanger is the component that prevents carbon monoxide from entering the breathing air, it’s vital. He explained that the lack of usual maintenance had allowed dust to accumulate within the inner workings. This dust restricted airflow and caused the gas furnace to run longer, labor harder and eventually overheat. The overheating caused the crack in the heat exchanger, since I’d failed to keep up with professional service, my manufacturer’s warranty wouldn’t cover the disfigure. I had no option however to buy a whole new gas furnace. This time, I was smart enough to sign up for a maintenance plan.
