Sunlight is brutal in my bedroom

I believe I will have to get black out curtains so that I will have no sunshine coming through the room whatsoever

I recently moved into this house with my friend Jen. It is somewhat small, but it still accommodates both of us rather nicely. The a/c is nice and powerful, despite the fact that I am seriously starting to regret my choice of room. It is a two-family house, with a single powder room, and my room faces the west side of the building. I haven’t absolutely gotten curtains for the window yet, and the direct sun heats up the bedroom considerably in the afternoons when I am trying to work. At first, I tried to ignore it. I moved my kindle and my little desk over to a corner of the room where the sunshine did not shine so brightly. It’s still the middle of the warm season so that absolutely did not change the fact that it got so very hot in the room in the late afternoons. Finally, I decided that I would start to turn down the thermostat in order to compensate for the heat generated from the direct sun. I managed to do this and get away with it for a couple afternoons. Then, my roommate Jen over on the east side of the house complained about it, and his room wasn’t being hit with direct sunlight, so Jen felt the change in the temperature far more than I did. It’s a crazy argument to have, so I admitted it. This sunshine problem is absolutely starting to get annoying. I keep a very busy schedule, despite the fact that I need to go buy the curtains ASAP. I believe I will have to get black out curtains so that I will have no sunshine coming through the room whatsoever. I work a stay-at-home task where I code late into the night, every night so being a night owl, I generally do not love the sunlight.
