Letting my dog sleep in the bed

I love my pets as much as the next guy, but it took me a long time to get to the point where I was comfortable with them sleeping with me in the bed at night.

I have a history of not sleeping well, and any small thing wakes me up and keeps me awake for hours on end.

My dogs had never tried sleeping in my bed until there was a really bad thunderstorm one summer night. The thunder and lightning this storm brought were surprisingly loud and overwhelming. That was the night they tried to get into the bed. Another thing that keeps me awake at night is not being able to sleep due to being too hot. I keep the thermostat very low while I am sleeping and I am lucky that my boyfriend is also a hot sleeper. Typically, the AC is kept at a cool 69 degrees year-round with the exception of the few winter months when the temperatures drop below freezing. LIke I said, this is a rare occurrence. When the temperatures are that low, I tend to let the dogs sleep in the bed with me strictly for warmth purposes. The night of the thunderstorm sent the dogs into a tizzy that kept them coming back to the bed night after night. Now, the dogs sleep in my bed each night no matter what. I keep the temperature about the same and they like that I let them sleep in the bed. Luckily, we haven’t experienced another storm like that one.
