Converting our basement into an apartment and ductless HVAC

My wife and I recently converted our sizable basement into an apartment.

We had kept the basement for storage, and nothing more, for far too long.

Most of the junk that we had in the basement were things that we did not need anyway. We decided to sell as much of the stuff in our basement as we could and throw much of the rest away. Then we decided to turn the basement into an apartment. One of the first things we realized is that it would somehow need climate control. We considered extending the ductwork of our central air conditioner into the basement. This was going to be a long, complicated, and costly process that we ultimately did not want to have to go through. Thankfully, we discovered the ductless heating and air conditioning system. We decided to install a small ductless HVAC unit for the basement. A ductless unit consists of an indoor and outdoor component without using any ducts. Once we converted the basement into an apartment and installed the ductless heating and air conditioning unit, I actually ended up wanting to hang out in the basement! We were going to rent out the space to a friend for extra money, but I actually really started considering turning the new apartment into my own personal man cave. My wife wasn’t having any of it when she realized that I had grown attached to the basement and she insisted that we rent it out. That ductless air conditioner just made it so comfortable down there!
