The new guy was late three days during the first week

I needed to hire a couple of service technicians to work at the HVAC repair service.

I interviewed several qualified candidates.

None of them made a great impression on me, so I really wasn’t excited about hiring any of them. I needed two guys and I decided to hire two candidates with different backgrounds. One of the candidates has a background in welding and the other candidate has a background in residential HVAC repair. I had both of the guys start on Monday. Neither one of the employees showed up to work on time, but Jack was an hour late. When the guy arrived, he tried to tell me that he got stuck in traffic. I didn’t know where he was coming from, I decided not to say much about the tardiness, because it was his first day. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. That guy was on time on Tuesday. In fact, he was 15 minutes early. The next day, he was an hour late again. I took Jack into the office at the HVAC repair center and I had a talk with that guy about punctuality. I told him that it was important for all of the employees to come to work on time. I thought he got the message loud and clear, but he was two hours late on Friday and didn’t seem very interested to give me a good reason. On Monday when the guy came back to work, I told the repair technician that he was no longer needed. He almost seemed surprised when I delivered the news.
