I took the AC for granted for a long time.
I never considered air conditioning to be a luxury. I grew up in a time when everyone had Central AC in the house. It seemed as normal as having a toilet, washing machine, or oven. When I joined the military, I had the chance to visit other countries and see how other people live around the world. I had an assignment that took me to a different country and a different continent. I spent a lot of time with the people in that nation and I got to know some of them very well. I made friends that I will remember for the rest of my life. I learned a lot about the culture and the way that the people live. None of the people had Central AC in their homes and it did not seem to bother them at all. The people weren’t sweating or complaining, because they found other ways to stay cool. I really learned a lot about different cultures and the way we live. I realized that I was taking a lot of things for granted. The experience definitely made me a better person. After I left the military, I decided to find a job working with people in other countries. It is my job now to help people set up utilities like water, sewer, and power in countries that would be considered third world places. I really love my job and I feel like I am helping to make a difference.
