I spend the last days of fall preparing and stocking up for winter. My husband had won custody of their three-year-old daughter and this was going to be her first winter experience and we wanted to make it as comfortable as possible. I contacted the heating dealer and scheduled heating maintenance. We needed an HVAC serviceman to thoroughly check the furnace and ductwork, do a heating repair where necessary and duct sealing where there were leaks if any. We had earlier on had consultation meetings at the home services company about the installation of a geo heat pump but now that my husband had gotten custody sooner than we had anticipated we told the HVAC tech we would have to delay that project for a year or less so that Jill could have time to get used to living with us and also enjoy playing in the yard before all the work began. The new heating technology and a digital thermostat would be a game-changer for us because of the type of heating technology it uses but waiting a year would not be too long because the heating device that we are currently using is still in good condition. Other than matters concerning the heating industry, I was anxious about having Jill because I was not sure how receptive she would be to me. We did not have a child of our own and I was hoping that Jill and I would have a good relationship. We were even waiting for her to come and choose the colour that we would paint her bedroom. I was hoping to be the mother that she lost because her mother passed away when she was a year and a half and she was raised by her grandparents.
