My groceries were spoiling before I got home.

I don’t know how you feel about discount warehouses, but they are my favorite place to shop for pantry staples. I feel that as long as you check the date, you shouldn’t have a problem. Then I discovered grocery auctions. The first couple of times I went, I stayed away from anything that couldn’t go into the pantry. I didn’t have heating or cooling in the pantry. If something needed to be in a cool, dry place, my pantry didn’t have it. I never knew what the temperature or humidity level was going to be. When I found that they had chicken for fifty cents a pound and Klondike bars for a dollar a box, I couldn’t say no. I bought twenty pounds of chicken and ten boxes of Klondike bars. I was able to get back to my house before the Klondike bars melted and I got them in the freezer. I then changed the thermostat so it was cooler in my house, before unpacking the chicken. It was supposed to be on ice, but the ice didn’t know that. I opened the box and I almost gagged. The chicken was already beginning to spoil and the odor was sickening. I took it outside and turned on my air purifier to get the odor out of my house. Between the bathroom ventilation fan, the stove ventilation fan and the air purifier, I was soon able to breathe while not holding my nose. I called the auction house and they said it was my fault for not putting ice on it. They supplied the ice in the cooler outside the building. I was glad it was just ten dollars and I learned an important lesson.
